CMZ EK250 Drilling rig

The drilling rig CZM EK250 has been designed for high performance and reliability, but keeping it simple to operate and mantain.

It was created for:
- Foundation piles, cased or uncased, up to 213 ft depth and 100 in diameter;
- CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) up to 92 ft depth and 31.5 in diamter;
- Displacement Piles up to 92 ft depth and 23.6 in diameter;
- Special applications on request.

With 350 hp and a operating weight of aproximately 75 tons, the EK250 is the most strong and productive machine of it's size.

The EK250 can be used for drilling with interlocking or friction kelly bar. The standard kelly is 4/48 mts (4/157 ft) interlocking. There are also other options as 4/38 (4/125), 4/60 (4/197), 5/48 (5/157) and 5/75 (5/246). The standard square joint is 200mm (7.7/8") and the kelly is a self locking type.
With an external diameter of 470mm (18.1/2") it can stand high torque and axial force increasing the life-time of the kelly even on heavy duty.
The EK250 can be used to drill bore-holes without casing, with stabilizing drilling fluid. It can also be used for cased bore-holes, with the installation of casing by the rotary, in its standard version. It can be optionally equipped with a casing oscillator, powered by the drilling rig, for longer diameters and depth
of casing.

EK250 Drilling rigs

The EK250 drilling rig can be easily converted from kelly bar to CFA application, because it is prepared to operate with the patented system "CFA Bottom Drive", exclusive of CZM. In this system the rotary is positioned at the bottom of the drilling rig, and the auger passes through the rotary with the torque being transmitted to the tool by a system of keyways and notches. As the rotary stays in the bottom part of the rig, the center of gravity is brought down, allowing the rig to perform greater depths compered to its competitors.
The EK250 can be applied to the maximum depth of 91'10" with a diameter of 32 in. Auger cleaner and a winch for constant pull-down are optionals.

The rig base

The base carrier is a Cat 336 HHP, specially designed in a partnership between Caterpillar and CZM to develop a great performance as a drilling rig. The base is under one year warranty and can be serviced by any Cat dealer on the world, making it easier for costumers everywhere to have the required support, increasing the lifetime of the equipment. The undercarriage is also manufactured by Caterpillar, with a "H" type frame that can retract down to 10'3" for transportation and extend up to 14.8" for operation, giving a better stability to the rig. With a traction force of 51,930 lbf the machine is very easy to move even on the toughest job sites.
